In 45th match of Vivo IPL-9 2016 KKR defeated
Rising Pune Supergiants by 8 wickets with D/L method. Batting first Pune didn’t
bat well. They played very slowly. The pitch was helping spinners and KKR have
quality spinners who took charge and kept Pune quite throughout the innings.
Usman Khwaja, George Baily and Saurabh Tiwary got starts but they could not capitalize
on that. They were 103 for 6 wickets when rain interrupted the match. Then KKR
was asked to bat and they started very badly. Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa
were out in very first over of Ashwin. But then Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan
took over. Pathan scored 37 runs in double quick time to remain up in D/L
system if rain comes again. That’s what happened. Rain came down and match was
called off to KKR victory by 8 wickets. Yusuf Pathan was named man of the match
for his quick knock of 37 runs off 18 balls which helped KKR emerged as
victorious. MSD played very slow and this was not Pune’s day. They are out of
the tournament and now playing for their pride. Hope to see some fireworks from
the bat of MSD soon to quite the critics.
